In this historic 145-year-old Lincoln Park condo, our goal was to strike a balance between modern elegance and architectural integrity. We began by preserving and highlighting the home’s original charm — including intricate crown molding, tall ceilings, original ornate wood doors and classic proportions — using these elements as a framework for a more elevated, contemporary design.
To create depth and drama, we introduced a moody, layered color palette of rich charcoals, deep taupes, and soft, muted neutrals, setting the tone for a space that feels both sophisticated on the first floor, but moody and dramatic in the basement. We selected statement chandeliers and sculptural light fixtures to anchor each room, offering a sense of quiet luxury while adding visual contrast against the historical detailing.
Furnishings were curated with a modern, tailored sensibility — clean lines, refined textures, and subtle nods to classic European design — allowing the architecture to breathe while enhancing the space’s timeless quality. The result is a home that feels effortlessly balanced: rooted in history, but holds up to modern living.
